Base Load Power for Gold Mine

Bulyanhulu, Tanzania

Construction was to begin for the Bulyanhulu Gold Mine located in Lake Victoria Goldfields in north central Tanzania. Owned by Barrick Gold Corporation, the underground mine was estimated to have the reserves to produce 400,000 ounces of gold per annum.  A highly reliable and consistent power supply was required to support the critical construction activities and underground operations until a permanent grid connection could be made available.

Aggreko Solution

Aggreko supplied and installed a 5 MW/6.6 kV continuously rated power package, complete with all ancillary products in order to deliver an uninterrupted and independent power supply.  Aggreko O & M personnel maintained the equipment on a 24/7 operation. The operation of the plant was controlled from the Aggreko Control Centre onsite.  In addition, a fuel storage/filtration system was installed to ensure that continuous availability of power was guaranteed throughout the duration of the contract.
